Cannabis Use Up 40% Since 1969

As more US States legalize recreational cannabis, or institute medical programs, more Americans are admitting to using the plant as it loses its stigma. A new Gallup Poll showed that 44 percent of Americans surveyed had tried cannabis. It’s a sharp increase since a 1969 poll, which showed only 4 percent had used tried the substance. Eleven percent of respondents said they were currently using cannabis, nearly double the 7 percent who said they were regular consumers in 2014.

While American politicians tend to shy away from discussion of cannabis on the campaign trail, the success and popularity of legalization efforts in states like Colorado and Washington may change their tune.
