New Licensed Producer Opens in Ontario

The government has added another licensed cannabis producer, Kindcann, operating in a renovated chicken processing plant in Paris, Ontario.

CEO and co-founder Maxim Zavet received zoning clearance from the County of Brant in November 2013, closing the deal on the 2.8-acre industrial site in April 2014 with  Health Canada giving approval to build in June 2014.

The plant has rigorous security measures, as required by Health Canada for all licensed producer under the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations. The facility has dozens of cameras, perimeter fencing and a 200-square-foot vault for storing cannabis.

“They want to make sure that the product’s not being diverted from the facilities and ending up on the street,” Zavet said.

The Licensed Producer currently employs seven people at the Paris facility, but Zavet hoped to increase that to 20 once production reaches full capacity of 1,400 – 1,500 kilograms of marijuana a year.
