Tilray Asks Colonie to OK Medical Cannabis Greenhouse

British Columbia-based Licensed Producer Tilray is asking New York State (particularly the Colonie Planning Board) for permission to build a 30,000 square-foot greenhouse, and a two-story 28,000 square-foot manufacturing facility on a 21-acre site.

Tilray is among 43 organizations seeking five limited medical cannabis licenses to be issued by the state. Under the state’s Compassionate Care Act, enacted last year, New York will select five operators and license each of them to open four dispensaries, for a total of 20 statewide.

The Colonie operation proposed by Tilray would be a manufacturing facility, not a dispensary, Campito’s representative, Daniel Hershberg, told the board.

“People will not come here to buy it,” Hershberg said. “It will be shipped to other locations.”
