Beach-goer stumbles over major abandoned stash

Several bundles of cannabis weighing more than 45 kilos washed up at a beach in San Diego recently.

Carla Hayes was taking a morning walk near Seagrove Park in Del Mar came across several large wrapped bundles apparently abandoned by smugglers.

“It’s not every day you walk down the beach and see $600,000 worth of marijuana,” she said. “Doesn’t happen every day.”

Instead of calling for help to cart the pot off herself, Hayes notified lifeguards and members of San Diego County Sheriff’s Department were called in to take custody of the abandoned pot.

No arrests were made.

Recreational cannabis use is now legal in California.
