Medical cannabis is helping to cultivate solutions to problems that have existed for decades. Medical conditions that have existed for decades are being combated with medicinal cannabis products. From topicals and vapes to sublingual tinctures, flowers and concentrates, cannabis as we know it is helping millions of people around the world.
The world of cannabis is continuously evolving and our understanding of this incredible plant has vastly expanded over the past two decades. We’re relearning what we knew thousands of years ago today. In 2900 BC, the Chinese Emperor Fu Hsi knew that cannabis was a strong medicine and it’s sad that we’re just getting back to where we were so long ago.
Phytocannabinoids found in cannabis such as THC, CBD, CBN, CBD, and others work with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help regulate and maintain optimal function within our body. Areas such as happiness, depression, sleep, aggression, and others are affected by how the ECS functions. One of the fantastic benefits of this system is its ability to create communication where previously little to none existed.
Cannabis Facilitates Communication
Nerves and cells begin to communicate more efficiently when cannabinoid receptor such as a CB1 and CB2 receptors come in contact with phytocannabinoids. Our bodies cannot produce phytocannabinoids on its own. We must consume them from plants. While peppercorns, mangoes, and cloves all contain terpenoids like beta-caryophyllene and myrcene, they’re not present in high enough levels to provide effectiveness. They’re better for tuning the ECS.
These cannabinoids are also affected by terpenoid levels or terpene levels. Science is showing that specific terpenes allow more or less of a specific cannabinoid to be retained by a cannabinoid receptor. This could prove to be most beneficial for those who have chronic terminal illnesses.
Dr. David Bearman, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Dr. Uma Dhanabalan are some of the medical professionals helping to elevate cannabinoid research in the right direction. All too often we hear the term “Marijuana Doctor.” It’s as if they are clueless to the vocabulary of cannabis. Marijuana is a slang term that in the opinion of many has no place in medical terminology or written law.
What Do You Think?
One thing the cannabis industry isn’t short of is opinions. The people in power still seem to clash with the culture and community. Those in power want regulation and taxation. The rest of us just want to be able to grow our own so we can control what is going into our body.
There are people that believe only big money companies should control cannabis and others that say give it to the people. Some believe that there’s a difference in medical and recreational cannabis while others believe that all cannabis consumption is medicinal.
The misunderstood plant called cannabis is making a comeback. No matter how you feel about cannabis it looks like it’s here to stay this time. What’s your thoughts?
