Flix Anonymous — Episode 41

Steve Stebbing “Stevil Dead” (CKNW and League of Manchildren film critic) and Trevor Dueck (The Daily Hive film critic) have joined forces to bring you Flix Anonymous, a show that brings you a fresh perspective on the cinematic universe, each and every Friday.

This week in new releases Steve and Trev look at the animated Kubo and the Two Strings, remake Ben-Hur and the, based-on-a-true-story, Jonah Hill movie War Dogs.

Also, five films in limited release this week including Hell Or High Water, Equity, Little Men, Edge Of Winter and Imperium.

Steve recommends Snowpiercer for his Netflix/Video on Demand pick, and Trevor suggests Where to Invade Next.

In film news, John Williams officially confirmed that he would be composing the score to Star Wars: Episode VII, returning to the studio in the next few weeks. John Turturro is filming a spin-off movie for his Big Lebowski character Jesus Quintana, but without the involvement of the Coen brothers. And director Kevin Smith is defending his daughter, and star of his upcoming film Yoga Hosers, from online bullying.

For stoner picks this week Steve says to check out Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made and Trevor suggests the Adam Sandler 90s comedy Happy Gilmore.

Next week, just five films are released including a Jason Statham sequel and Fede Alvarez’s follow up to The Evil Dead in wide release. In limited, a comedy thriller from Norway with Stellan Skarsgard, John Krasinksi’s latest directorial effort and the filmmaking debut of actress Clea Duvall.
