Four More Dispensaries Move on in Licensing Process as Shutdown Deadline Approaches

The City of Vancouver has posted four new second-stage dispensary business license applications to its website, with dozens of businesses given until the end of the month to close their doors.

Eggs Canna Inc. (208 E 16th Ave), The Green Cross Society (4296 Main St), Medical Mary-Jane Canada Society (205 SE Marine Dr) and Karuna Health Foundation (4520 Victoria Dr) have all advanced to the next step in the city’s licensing program.

They now join 10 others that have also advanced to this stage, while seven more dispensaries have received a development permit and an additional two have had their rejections overturned at a Board of Variance meeting, Apr. 6, that have yet to be reflected on the city’s website.

Once of the new additions Eggs Canna Inc. is across the street from Greatful Med (211 E 16th Ave), one of the two dispensaries that had their rejection overturned. It’s not clear how the city will proceed with both applications as they are less than 300 m from one another, violating one of the city’s rules around the new licensing system.

The city received an initial 176 dispensary applications when the program was announced, and will require unlicensed shops to begin closing Apr. 29.

Councillor Kerry Jang said police, inspectors, fines and the courts will be used to apply the new rules to businesses that stay open past their close date — typically six months past their business license rejection notice.
