Alberta Mother Fights to Keep Child on Medical Cannabis

An Edmonton mom is challenging a legal application from the Alberta government barring her epileptic daughter from using cannabis. The mother will be in court today to strike the government’s order, which CinC feels is unconstitutional.

Children with epilepsy are discovering that cannabidiol, which is not the psychoactive ingredient of cannabis, is limiting their amount of seizures. The Edmonton mother said she heard about the treatment from a mother in Oregon who successfully controls her child’s seizures through CBD.

Before cannabis, the Edmonton child was on a cocktail of pharmaceuticals, which the mother describes as worsening her overall condition, turning her into a “zombie” without any improvement of control of seizures. Cannabis eliminates the need for these other drugs and has been shown to alleviate epilepsy.
