Do you love your hair? I know I do! Now if you don’t love your hair then keep scrolling but, if you’re like me and you do, KEEP READING. In this article, we are going to discuss all things hemp oil and healthy hair.
The Difference Between Hemp Oil & Hemp Seed Oil
Before we go down the rabbit hole of hemp oil and hair care, I wanted to highlight the importance of being able to identify the difference between Hemp Seed Oil and Hemp Oil. Both of them come from the cannabis plant but, hemp oil is strictly derived from the leaves and stalks. Hemp seed oil is however only derived from the seeds and is pressed with other seeds and oils (sunflower seed or argan oil). Hemp oil by itself is full of cannabinoids (THC) and hemp seed oil does not have any. Here’s a breakdown for you.
Hemp Seed Oil
- antioxidants, omega-3s, and omega-6 fatty acids.
- known for its moisturizing and non-comedogenic properties.
- derived from the seeds, usually combined with other oils for skincare or haircare uses.
- does not have cannabinoids in it.
- contains anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory topical properties.
- rich in amino acids, vitamins, and antioxidants.
- made from the leaves and stalks of the cannabis plant.
- does have cannabinoids, such as THC.
How can it help my hair?
Stimulates Hair Growth
If you’re massaging the scalp through applications this will promote blood circulation. Because of it being high in omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, all of these help in maximizing hair growth. For everyone that complains their hair doesn’t grow that fast, maybe this is the missing link?
Hemp oil has one of the highest concentrations of polyunsaturated fatty acids – meaning that it’s great for nourishment and hydration for your hair. If you apply it on a regular basis, it is said to enhance the lubrication of the shaft and help prevent hair breakage. Who doesn’t want to say goodbye to split ends?
Calms Scalp Irritation
Due to many detergents and sulphates that are in our shampoos a lot of people suffer from dry scalps. Hemp seed oil is high in Vitamin E and antioxidants. This helps repair aggravated skin. A healthy scalp leads to healthy hair.
Overall, even though it hasn’t been studied by science as much as other oils, hemp oil and hemp seed oil have shown to have many benefits. It is definitely a staple item that I will be adding to my hair care routine.
