420 Vancouver 2019 – Cypress Hill headlining historic 25th anniversary

This year’s 420 Vancouver will be historic for many reasons. Not only does 2019 mark the 25th anniversary of Vancouver’s world-famous 420 protest and festival (protestival?), it’s the first 420 Vancouver since Canada legalized cannabis last October.

With so much to celebrate, it’s hard to think of a better headliner than Cypress Hill, one of the biggest and most weed-friendly groups in hiphop history, and the insane brains behind stoner classics like “Hits from the Bong” and “I Wanna Get High”.

Fittingly, the last time the West Coast legends were in Vancouver was Oct. 17- the day cannabis was legalized– but that’s not where their recent Vancouver connection ends. Cypress Hill collaborated with Vancouver-based sneaker company Six Hundred Four last year on a limited-edition shoe that celebrated the 25th anniversary of their triple platinum 1993 album Black Sunday, which spawned those aforementioned cannabis anthems.

As frontman B-Real said of the shoes:

“In many ways this sneaker reflects exactly what we’re about as music creators—unwavering pro-cannabis artistry.”

Those aren’t empty words either. Cypress Hill has a well-known history of cannabis advocacy that stretches back decades, calling for legalization of both recreational and medical cannabis. The group has even been credited with helping destigmatize cannabis back in the 90s, making them the perfect choice to celebrate this monumental moment for Mary Jane.

We can’t wait to take some hits from the bong with these cannabis superstars at 420 Vancouver!
