We may have already celebrated Thanksgiving here in Canada, but American Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and that means you’re about to get another chance to celebrate Danksgiving. Here’s what you need to know about this special holiday for cannabis enthusiasts.
What is Danksgiving?
Danksgiving is a relatively new trend. While we don’t know who invented this tradition or where it came from, searches for “Danksgiving” popped up in 2006 and its popularity has continued to grow each year.
The simplest meaning attached to Danksgiving is to enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner while getting high. For others, it is a custom that follows Thanksgiving. They simply consume cannabis for stimulating their appetites to complete their Thanksgiving leftover dinner. I mean, who hasn’t “taken a walk” before dinner to smoke a J before the big feast?\
Many people consider the Sunday after Thanksgiving to be the official day to celebrate Danksgiving. Some people even make a brand new cannabis-infused meal to celebrate the occasion.
Some recommendations for your fest to celebrate Danksgiving
With cannabutter, you can make most Thanksgiving dishes cannabis-infused. Nevertheless, please note that the standard serving size of THC is 10 milligrams. So, If you’re planning to add cannabis to every dish in your thanksgiving menu, make sure to lower the dosage for each of your dishes.

- 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of turkey pan drippings
- 3 cups of chicken stock
- Thyme and rosemary
- Salt and pepper
A Thanksgiving dinner isn’t complete without gravy. For this occasion, we will make cannabis-infused gravy. And you can complete this recipe with a few simple steps.
To get started you can tie the thyme and rosemary in a bundle and set aside. Melt the cannabutter on low heat and add on flour until browned. Slowly add in the turkey drippings, then the herb bundle, and bring the mixture to a boil until thickened.
Afterward, reduce the heat to a simmer and slowly add the chicken stock, half a cup at a time, until you get the texture you want. If the gravy becomes too thick, you can add more broth.
Infused garlic mashed potatoes
- 4 pounds of potatoes
- 4 tablespoons of cannabutter
- 2 cups of milk
- 4 cloves crushed garlic
- Fresh chopped chives (optional)
- Salt and pepper
Another great dish to celebrate your Danksgiving is mashed potatoes. To get started, peel and cut the potatoes into large cubes, then add them to boiling water. Set your timer for 15 minutes. When finished you should be able to pierce the potato easily with a fork.
Next, move the potatoes into a large mixing bowl and add the cannabutter. Mash the potatoes with a masher or blend them with a mixer. Then, add the garlic, and milk a little at a time until you reach your preferred consistency. Season with salt and pepper, and top with chopped chives to finish up.
